Welcome! We are a private speech therapy clinic located in Bloomington, Indiana. Since we started in 2011, we have offered evaluations and treatment for children with speech and language challenges. However, more recently we have also started offering support for neurodiverse adults.
Kids
We offer comprehensive evaluations and treatment for many pediatric speech and language challenges; however, our team has therapists that are specifically passionate about articulation, preschool and school-age language disorders, and social language (using the Social Thinking methodology).
Neurodiverse Adults
We offer services for neurodiverse professionals and college students. This support is best for someone who feels successful in most areas of life, but is struggling to make friends, has trouble with time management, and/or has difficulty staying organized. These Services focus on executive functioning skills and social language (using the Social Thinking methodology).
Social Skills Groups
We offer social skills groups with therapists who have been trained in the social thinking methodology. Social groups offer a safe & supportive space to practice friendship & interpersonal skills. Group sessions are typically paired with individual treatment sessions.
Summer Speech Therapy
Every summer we offer summer speech therapy for children who are already receiving speech therapy through an individual education plan. Summer speech allows access to a weekly, or bi-weekly therapy time without an evaluation as long as the child has a current IEP to work from.

Services
In addition to having our clinic, we provide excellent in-person speech therapy through contracting to public, private, and charter schools in south central Indiana. Since 2013, we have worked with school districts to meet a variety of caseload needs, including part-time, full-time, maternity leaves, and short and long-term contracts. Location
Our clinic is located in The Fields Professional Offices building at the corner of Moores Pike and South Fenbrook Lane, which is the old barn that sits inside The Fields apartment complex property. Our office is conveniently located on the east side of Bloomington, but can be tricky to find the first time, so click here for more specific directions.
When you come see us, you will find that we have two therapy rooms that are very calm and well-appointed for both kids and adults who enjoy playing and/or sitting on the floor or at a table.
Payment
We are in network with Anthem insurance company. For families that do not have private Anthem plans, we offer a very reasonable cash pay rate and we will provide you with the necessary documentation to submit for out-of-network coverage from your insurance company.
We are not Medicaid providers.
Our Team
We are a team of experienced speech-language pathologists, who are guided by our two owners, Melinda Dowling & Rachel Mahrt.
Melinda Dowling
Melinda earned her bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame and then went on to get her master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Indiana University in 2008. Melinda started Bloomington Pediatric Speech Therapy (BPST) in 2011. Prior to starting BPST, Melinda worked as a school speech therapist. Melinda continues to use her expertise through her role as a supervisor for school therapists and her own speech therapy work in a school.
Rachel Mahrt
Rachel earned her bachelor’s degree from Miami University and then went on to get her master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Indiana University in 2008. Rachel joined Melinda as a co-owner at BPST in 2013. Prior to working at BPST, Rachel spent five years doing outpatient pediatric clinical therapy in Bloomington; Rachel continues to use those skills as she manages the BPST clinic and continues to carry a client caseload.
